Volunteer & Service-Learning

Mission

Our mission is to provide meaningful opportunities for students to volunteer their time as they learn to become citizen leaders and make positive contributions to the common good.

Volunteers can get involved in one of our many projects independently or with a group of friends to help local service agencies that have requested assistance.

  • Winter Wonderland Workshop at the LCVA!

The Longwood Center for the Visual Arts is hosting ther annual Winter Wonderland Free Family Workshop on Saturday December 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

Join the LCVA and hundreds of families from the Farmville community for a fun filled festival: The Winter Wonderland Free Family Workshop on Saturday, December 12. Here children of all ages create embellished and extravagant greeting cards, glittery snowflakes, hand-stamped gift-wrap, among other cheerful holiday-themed projects. All this and more, not to mention milk and cookies!

Volunteer for this event! It is the volunteers who make the workshops a success with their bright and cheerful smiles, by lending encouragement to the participants, and singing along to holiday music (out of tune singing is OK!) Volunteers arrive at 9 a.m. and stay until 1 p.m.

We have already started transforming the bottom floor into a wintery wonderland by hanging sparkly lights and shimmering snowflakes. We are also looking for volunteers to help create beautiful decorations and prepare the projects for the event.

Come and get in to the spirit of the season by giving your time to the community. You'll be glad you did!

For any questions, please contact Mike Webb by phone at: 434-395-2697, or by email: webbme@longwood.edu.

  • Help Joshua Bolt

Joshua is a brilliant, funny, and joyful seven-year-old! He reads, draws, writes poetry, solves math equations, creeps, climbs, and stacks things!

    He is also severely brain-injured.

His brain injury is commonly called cerebral palsy. The Bolt family is implementing an intensive home-based program of physical, intellectual, and social development for Joshua. This treatment program is prescribed by The Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential (www.iahp.org).

The Bolts need fun-loving volunteers both to help and to play! There are even some projects you can help with from a distance.
