Earlier this week, Apple released an update for Java that addresses the CVE-2012-0507 vulnerability. This is a serious vulnerability that should be patched immediately. Updating your Mac is a manual process that should be performed regularly. To do this you should:
- Click the Apple on the upper left corner of your screen
- Choose "Software Update" (You will be prompted for your ADMINISTRATOR name and password. If you are not familiar with these credentials, please contact User Support Services at 434-395-4357.)
- The Software Update process will check for the updates available for your computer. When this process completes, select Show Details. The Java update should appear in the list presented.
- Click install updates
Please note that the time required to complete this process depends on the number of updates available for your machine. It may take 10 minutes or it could be up to an hour. Consider beginning the process before you leave the office for a meeting or class or when you have tasks to complete without the use of your computer. You should save your work and close all programs prior to installing the updates as a restart of your machine may be required.
If you have questions or need assistance please contact User Support Services at (434) 395-4357 or via email at helpdesk@longwood.edu.
Thank you and have a great weekend!
