RAVE

Elwood will Step Up & Say Something! Will you?
On Monday March 5th from 3-6pm in Blackwell Ballroom the members of the RAVE (Respond to Acts of Violence Effectively) committee are hosting a huge event to help showcase and bring awareness to various acts of violence including hazing, bullying, sexual abuse, harassment, and stalking. We plan to talk about each particular issue for 10 minutes. We are expecting huge attendance as we are asking members of the Longwood community (students, faculty, staff, alumni) to sign a pledge stating that they will "Step Up & Say Something". For each person signing the pledge they will receive a silicon wristband to wear and a 2nd one to give to a friend who was unable to make it to the event (so we can continue to spread the message).

Purpose

RAVE stands for Respond (to) Acts (of) Violence Effectively, and the purpose of the committee is to educate the campus community about various forms of violence and how they impact the campus.  The task force will focus on crimes such as bullying, cyberbullying, hazing, micro-aggression, sexual assault, and stalking and will work to educate the community about the crimes, discuss how to report the crimes, and provide information regarding how to assist victims of the crimes.

Objectives for 2012-2013

  • Organize a team of students, faculty, and staff members who are interested in becoming involved in the task force.
  • Research and develop training materials on the following topics: bullying, cyberbullying, hazing, micro-aggression, sexual assault, and stalking.
  • Create a website to provide informational information for the campus community.
  • Organize a campus wide event to educate the public, emphasize the impact on campus, discuss how we can assist victims, and sign a pledge to respond appropriately to acts of violence.
