Regulatory/Policies Areas

Longwood University's Environmental Goals are to meet or exceed the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and, where applicable, EPA regulations, directives, and Executive Orders established by the Governor's Office. These compliance standards shall be met through procedures, processes, and plans with attached responsibilities to cover the below listed areas, and those areas may later be identified by a regulation:

Emergency Management establishes criteria and direction through processes and procedures to ensure that the "all hazards emergency management plan" is developed, trained, implemented, practiced, and reviewed to ensure compliance. The EHS&EM Office shall establish and assist in developing and implementing the emergency management plan for Longwood University. The "all hazards plan" shall include, but not be conclusive of, the following:

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) serves all university members by helping to create a safe and healthy work environment through the promotion of occupational safety, fire safety, and occupational health programs. OSH staff also perform industrial hygiene monitoring, evaluations of potential health hazards, and assist with the development of controls to reduce or eliminate exposure to these hazards.

Mission Statement

The mission of the EHS&EM Office is to develop, coordinate, and assist in the implementation and training of appropriate EHS&EM policies and procedures which promote an injury free career culture for all faculty, staff, students, contractors, and visitors studying, working, or visiting the university and its properties; also, to engage in technical and administrative requirements and to adhere to all compliance directives to ensure environmental quality standards are met.
