Campus Housing Release
Do not sign an off-campus lease without receiving permission from RCL!
The Facts
- RCL has an Executive directive to fill all available residential beds.
- LU has a residency requirement to house students until they earn 89 credits.
- LU regulates the number of released students, moving into local neighborhoods.
- The off campus application process is held February 14-18, 2011.
- Received applications will be rank-ordered, by earned credit hours - high to low.
- Students must have at least 56 earned credits to submit a release application.
- Submission of a release application DOES NOT guarantee release!
- DO NOT sign any lease until written permission is provided by RCL.
- WAITING LIST applicants, with low (65 or less) earned credits, may not be initially released…if at all
If apartment living is a must, consider one of the 950 Longwood-managed beds at Longwood Village, Lancer Park, or The Landings. Bring specific questions to the Q&A sessions and rental fair.
Interning or Student Teaching?
If a contracted residential student is assigned to student teach, intern or participate in a practicum experience during the fall or spring semester at one of the eight local county schools listed below, he or she is expected to continue campus residency.
- Amelia
- Appomattox
- Buckingham
- Charlotte
- Cumberland
- Lunenburg
- Nottoway
- Prince Edward
If academic placement is located outside these counties, mid-year release from the Longwood University residency contract is permitted. Enrolled students living at home with parent(s) or legal guardian(s) should not exceed the recommended eight local counties either. A written appeal must be submitted to Residential and Commuter Life for traveling distances that are greater than these listed counties or that extend 45 miles from campus. Approval or denial decisions will be provided in writing.
Any student wishing to live at home for the 2011-2012 academic year with his/her parent(s) or legal guardian(s) within the 8 surrounding counties, must submit a notarized letter with the student and parent or legal guardian's signature. This letter can be submitted to the Residential and Commuter Life Office.
