Longwood is a residential institution that features residence life education focusing on student learning and personal development as part of its distinct academic mission. Therefore, students are required to live in Longwood manage housing unless the Office of Residential and Commuter Life (RCL) approves an exception. Housing and Meal Plan Contracts are for the entire academic year (August through May).
Continuing students must participate in the next academic year room sign-up process and follow all guidelines established by RCL. Prior to this assignment process, students are required be registered, or register in the immediate future, for at least 12 credits for the fall semester.
Applications for exceptions to the residency requirement for continuing students must be submitted to RCL prior to room sign-ups. Leases or other living arrangements should not be confirmed until exceptions are verified in writing from RCL. Letters of exception will be distributed via LU email accounts.
Note: Students who are offered exceptions will be expected to participate in an "off-campus orientation meeting" and to provide the University with an accurate off-campus address.
Full occupancy indicates every bed space within a chosen assignment must be occupied by an eligible residential student. This means students who sign-up during our Apartment or Main Campus sign-up processes must have obtained the required information (Name, LancerNet Id, RMSID, building preference, floor preference and desired Meal Plan) from enough people to fill the assignment location.
There are some apartments at Lancer Park that have a bedroom within the apartment that does not have a window. Please review the list below that includes the list of apartments. If you have additional questions, please contact the Residential and Commuter Life Office.
Currently, only those students with documented medical needs are assigned to our single rooms. RCL will create a wait list for student who would like to be assigned to one in the rare event that any single rooms should become available. Students from the waitlist will be assigned in academic credit hour order. Assignment to a single room may not be possible until late July or early August. The waitlist request form will be available on RCL website following self - assignment.
If you will not be returning to the university and will not be attending/registering for any Longwood courses, you must complete the withdrawal process. To withdraw from the university, you must visit the Dean's office specific to your major and complete a withdrawal form. Completion of the withdrawal process is required.
If you are interested in living with a returning international student please follow the Self-Assignment Instructions posted on our site and sign-up according to your slotted time on the timeline.
If you are interested in living with an incoming international student please print off an application and return it to the RCL central office prior to 5pm March 21st.
The room assignment process is designed for ONLY current/continuing residents. Main Campus will be available March 28th - April 8th and Apartment sign ups are available February 3rd through the 10th. Assignments for new residential students (transfers and re-admitted) will be processed during the summer months, using a different allocation procedure.
An academic or judicial suspension will terminate the room and board assignment and the random bed space will be assigned to another eligible resident (from an anticipated waiting list).
The Board of Visitors are not expected to approve the University fees until a special meeting, immediately following Commencement. Once approved, room and meal plan rates will be posted on the RCL website.
All non-administrative moves (personal choice moves) will be subject to a $50.00 processing fee.
A room assignment "freeze" is in effect until approximately 2 weeks after the start of the fall term for any non-administrative room changes. (incoming residents and if applicable, students living in temporary or transitional assignments will be given priority.) Unauthorized room changes are not permitted. Students found to have made an illegal room change will be assessed a $75.00 fee and will face judicial action.
Residents desiring to make a room change, prior to the start of the semester should contact the Assignments Manager. Failure to complete the room change process properly or to obtain the appropriate approval prior to the moving will result in an improper/illegal room change charge and/or disciplinary action.
Students have until 5pm on the add/drop date of each semester to change their meal plans.
Students may change their plans through the Student Housing Gateway.0
After the Board of Visitors approves the rates for the upcoming school year there will be an new version of the "Change your Meal Plan ONLINE" link. Stay tuned.
