Study Abroad
"The Past is a Foreign Country..."
The opening lines of L.P. Hartley's novel The Go-Between easily sum up why our department has long supported study abroad and why we encourage our students to go overseas as part of their education: "The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there."
Of course, foreign countries are, well, foreign also. So it is that both past and present come together when our students find themselves walking among the physical legacies of the past while navigating the complexities of a living, other culture.
A World of Opportunity
Multiple opportunities abound at Longwood from short-term courses led by our faculty to full semester exchange programs with sister universities around the globe. In recent years, faculty-led programs have studied in France, Spain, Greece, China, Morocco, Niger, and Mali. Students have gone to many more destinations than just these as part of other courses.
