Library Services

Basics

A valid Lancernet ID and password are required to access the library’s online databases from an off-campus location.

All library correspondence will be conducted using your Longwood email address.

Please see the Library’s web site for detailed information about library resources, policies and services.

Accessing Library Resources

You may access the Library's 150 restricted subscription database services (including over 11,000 online journals) from off campus with an active Internet connection.  You will be required to enter your Lancernet ID and password.  Please direct questions concerning connecting and IDs /passwords for  this service, including receiving a "Bad ID or Password" status error, to the User Support Services Help Desk. The Library web site has help tips for remote access to Library resources.

The Library’s web site also provides access to the library catalog (for materials owned by the library and electronic course reserves), selected online reference materials, and research help pages.

Requesting Materials

The Library provides a Document Delivery service for students currently enrolled in Longwood University online courses and living more than 20 miles from campus.

After registering with the Library’s interlibrary loan system, you may request circulating items in the Greenwood Library, photocopies of journal articles from the Library’s print journal collection, and books or journal articles not found in the Greenwood Library. The requested materials will be shipped directly to you at the address you specify.  When receiving books and other physical items, you (1) are responsible for the return postage required to mail the items back to the Longwood Library, (2) accept responsibility for payment of damaged or lost items, and (3) are responsible for paying overdue charges for materials not returned on time.  Journal articles are provided in electronic format when possible; photocopied articles are yours to keep.

Requests for items held in the Greenwood Library are normally shipped within 24 hours.  The appropriate loan period for items belonging to the Greenwood Library begins on the ship date; items owned by the Greenwood Library may be renewed online.  The loan period for books requested through interlibrary loan is established by the lending library; renewals are not allowed.

Requesting Assistance

Email research assistance is available through our Ask A Librarian service, with a maximum 24-hour turnaround time.  Please identify yourself as a online student when completing the form.

You may also reach the library at 434-395-2433 or toll free at 877-267-7883 during working hours.
