Prospective Students
Our Program
As a Longwood University Nursing Student you will work with highly qualified, dedicated faculty; enjoy small class sizes; and experience real world healthcare. You will develop critical thinking skills, a compassionate understanding of human needs and behavior, and the ability to work with other healthcare professionals to provide care for patients.
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program includes essential content recommended by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. Built on a strong science foundation the program includes coursework in liberal arts and humanities and extensive clinical experiences in both healthcare settings and in the Clinical Simulation Learning Center.
Challenging academics, laboratory, and clinical work are integral components of the BSN program. The blend of classroom and hands-on clinical experiences will introduce you to the real world of healthcare. The program also includes a summer externship and final semester, individually- designed intensive clinical practicum to prepare you to step into your first position as a professional nurse.
Our nursing program prepares nurses to become citizen leaders. With a nursing degree from Longwood you will have the knowledge and skills to improve the health of your community, your nation, and the world.
Real Life Clinical Experiences
Your clinical experiences may take place in hospitals, clinics, community mental health centers, substance abuse services, public schools, college health centers, extended and long-term care facilities, or home and rehabilitation settings.
These clinical experiences, completed under the supervision of Longwood faculty and nurse preceptors in the agencies, will help prepare you to care for patients and clients of any age and with varied health challenges.
