Vocal Ensembles

 

Auditions

Men's and Women's Choirs are non-auditioned groups - simply register for the class and come sing! Auditions for Camerata Singers and Chamber Singers are held mid-semester - October and March - for the following semester, and are open to all Longwood students. The audition requires vocalizing, sight-reading, and a solo a cappella audition song. For more information, contact Dr. McDermott at mcdermottpd@longwood.edu.

Camerata Singers

Camerata Singers is Longwood’s flagship choral ensemble, representing Longwood and the Music Department across the state and the region. Singers are selected through an audition, and include majors from across the University. Chamber Singers

Chamber Singers is Longwood's advanced women's ensemble, representing Longwood and the Music Department across the state and the region. Singers are selected through an audition and include majors from across the University. Chamber Singers performs sacred and secular choral literature from ancient to modern times. SSAA. 2 periods; 1 credit.

 

University Men's Choir

Men’s Choir is open to men across campus who are interested in singing. Participation can fulfill General Education Goal 4 requirements for non-music majors, who are welcome to join the choir without audition. Men’s Choir sings with Women's Choir throughout the semester, appearing informally on campus a few times each semester, and offering a final concert at the end of the semester. TB, 2 periods; 1 credit.  Learn more Men's Choir Sp 14

 

University Women's Choir

Women’s Choir is open to women across campus who are interested in singing. Opera Workshop

Preparation and performance of scenes from operas, operettas, and musical theater or complete works. Emphasis is on musical preparation, movement and diction. Prerequisite: Audition or consent of instructor. May be repeated for credit. 3 periods; 1 credit.

Wind Symphony

The Longwood Wind Symphony is a 60-65 member ensemble which includes members from all schools and departments of the university.  Membership is open to all instrumentalists, regardless of major.   The band rehearses and performs a wide range and variety of concert band literature. 2 periods; 1 credit.

Jazz Ensembles A and B are both structured as 18-piece big bands.  They present a series of concerts throughout the year.  Participation is open to all students by audition.  The Jazz Ensembles rehearse and performs all styles of jazz. 2 periods; 1 credit.
