During fall and spring breaks, all students that wish to remain on-campus must register to stay beforehand on the Residential and Commuter Life (RCL) website. During winter and summer break, all on-campus residence halls will be closed, and students must make alternative arrangements during that time. You can research the dates for these breaks on the academic calendar webpage. Many students choose to visit their families in their home country, family and friends in the United States, or travel. You are responsible for making your own arrangements for these times and for making sure that you keep all your travel documents with you.
If you are looking for some ideas for winter break, feel free to check out Winter Break Options for International Students.
The Office of International Affairs will provide free transportation to and from Richmond International Airport (RIC) for spring, winter and summer breaks, and will drop students off in Richmond at the Amtrak or bus stations that are on the route to the airport. Information that can help you get started with travel plans is below. Remember that you have a 30-day grace period after the end date listed on DS-2019 (or 60 days if you have an I-20) during which you may travel in the United States on your student visa.
If you do not arrive at Longwood University on the scheduled free transportation dates, then you must make alternative arrangements for transportation. You may be picked up by a friend or family member, or you may hire a taxi to take you to Farmville. However, please be advised that Longwood University is at least a one hour drive from Richmond International Airport, and that hiring a taxi will be very expensive.
