Graduate Professional Endorsement Programs
Educational Leadership Professional Endorsement
The educational leadership professional endorsement is designed for teachers who have a master's degree, hold at least a valid Virginia Postgraduate Professional License or equivalent from another state, have taught successfully for at least two (2) years, and wish to pursue a career in school administration and/or supervision. Students are provided preparation for administrative and/or supervisory roles in public and private schools.
Literacy & Culture/Reading Specialist Professional Endorsement
The Reading Specialist/Coach professional endorsement is designed for teachers who have a Master's degree, hold at least a valid Virginia Collegiate Professional teaching license or equivalent from another state, and have taught successfully for at least two (2) years in which reading education was a responsibility under a full-time teaching contract.
School Library Media Professional Endorsement
The School Library Media professional endorsement is designed for individuals with a valid Virginia Collegiate Professional License or equivalent from another state who want to be eligible for an endorsement for Library Media preK-12 without obtaining a Master's degree.
Special Education General Curriculum Professional Endorsement
The Special Education professional endorsement is designed for educators who have or are eligible for Virginia Elementary/Secondary Initial or Continuing teaching licensure. This option will provide coherent preparation in all areas of the Special Education curriculum including field experience. Successful completion of the entire program meets current eligibility requirements for an endorsement in Special Education General Curriculum grades K-12.
The Department of Education and Special Education offers four graduate professional endorsements in educational leadership, literacy & culture/reading specialist, school library media, and special education general curriculum.
