Presented to students declaring an intention to enter the teaching profession who are deemed Longwood teacher education honors students based on academic excellence and need. Preference is given to applicants from the Northern Neck region of Virginia including the counties of Northumberland, Lancaster, Westmoreland, Essex and Richmond.
Presented to student who is a Virginia resident, enrolled in the Educational discipline and who achieves academically.
Awarded to a graduate or undergraduate student based on financial need, academic achievement and promise as a teacher, giving special attention to recipient who has expressed a desire to teach grades K-7.
Awarded to a junior or senior Virginia resident with a 3.0 or above GPA, based on academic achievement and financial need.
Based on academic achievement with first preference to students from Virginia Counties in the Southwest and Southside.
Awarded to a full-time Southside Virginia resident who plans to teach elementary education; 3.0 GPA or higher.
Awarded to a full-time undergraduate or graduate student with a 3.0 GPA or above majoring in a field of study leading to certification in Special Education; based on academic achievement and financial need.
Awarded to a student preparing to become an elementary school teacher with preference to students from the Chesapeake-Portsmouth area.
Presented to a full-time undergraduate student seeking license as an elementary school teacher; Virginia resident and 3.0 GPA required.
Awarded to an active member of Kappa Delta Pi who is classified as a senior the year in which the award to be used and has a 3.25 GPA.
Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student, rising sophomore, proven academic performance; consideration may be given to financial need.
Presented to a rising junior or senior enrolled in Early Childhood Education with a 3.0 GPA, who has shown professional potential.
Preference to full-time enrolled undergraduate student; second preference to full-time graduate student; 3.0 or above GPA. Virginia resident; prefer students, residents of counties in Southwest Virginia: Buchanan, Dickenson, Grayson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington and Wise.
Awarded to a junior or senior with GPA of 2.75. Preference is given to a student from Southside Virginia.
Presented to student based on academic achievement, need, and intention to enter the teaching profession.
Presented to student who has completed 15 s.h., a 2.5 GPA, or above, with financial need as the final determining factor for selection. Preference is given to a Longwood Student Education Association member.
First preference is given to applicants from Prince Edward, Buckingham, Cumberland, Nottoway, and/or Charlotte Counties. Based on financial need, academic merit and intention to enter the teaching profession.
Awarded to a student who expresses a desire to teach, maintains acceptable academic standing with a preference to a resident of Amelia County.
Based on merit, awarded to a junior or senior pursuing a career in teaching.
How to Apply: These two scholarships require that you be nominated by a department chair in consultation with faculty. A letter of recommendation from the department chair and your form are then considered by a special committee. Both scholarships are awarded to rising seniors who have completed 75 s.h. and have minimum 3.25 GPA.
An in-depth observation and participation practicum in a public school setting for at least 60 hours under the supervision of Longwood in first session of summer school at the end of the freshman or sophomore year..
Participation and micro-teaching in public school settings for at least 60 hours under Longwood supervision during the first session of summer school at the end of the sophomore or junior year.
Elementary and middle education teacher candidates participate each week in a semester of Partnership Program courses (requiring EDUC 325, 326, 327, 450, 451, and 452 for licensure in either or both elementary and middle school licensure) consisting of four days of on-site methodological preparation in reading/language arts, mathematics, science and social science; one-half of each of the four days is spent in the classrooms working with the children. Teacher candidates return each Friday to the campus for courses that focus upon exceptional learners and classroom management.
