DEAN OF STUDENTS GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE
Anyone wishing to file a complaint shall submit a written grievance to the Dean of Students office within thirty calendar days of the event (s) triggering the grievance. The written grievance must include:
A clear statement of the university rule, regulation, policy and/or action of procedure which the person complains;
- The date of any action which is being appealed;
- A summary of the action(s) which the complainant has taken to resolve the matter informally;
- Documentation which supports the grievance.
- A collection of supporting documentation.
Written grievances should be directed to the attention of the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Students who will forward the case to the appropriate administrator.
The appropriate administrator shall meet with the complainant within five business days of the receipt of the grievance to gather data and attempt resolution.
If this meeting does not resolve the grievance, the appropriate administrator shall conduct an informal investigation of the grievance. In cases where the grievance is about the conduct or the policy enforcement protocol, the appropriate administrator may consult others.
Within five business days after the receipt of the response from the appropriate administrator, if the complainant is not satisfied with the written response, the complainant may present the written grievance to the Dean of Students Appeals and Grievance Committee (chaired by the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Students, appointed by the Dean of Students). The Dean of Students or designee shall, within ten business days after the receipt of the grievance, schedule and conduct a meeting with the members of the Dean of Students Appeals and Grievance Committee, complainant and other persons involved in the grievance. The complainant may present any witnesses or documents pertaining to the complaint.
After the investigation is complete, the Dean of Students Appeals and Grievance Committee shall issue a written answer to the complainant within five business days from completion of the meeting(s) with the student and other persons. The decision of the Dean of Students Appeals and Grievance Committee is final.
