LU Mentors: International Lancer Mentoring Program

The LU Mentors mentoring program gives international students the opportunity to receive assistance during their transition into college in a new country by an upperclassman mentor. The purpose of this program is to help create relationships between international students and their American peers. These relationships will better enable international students to adjust to college life at Longwood University.

Mentor Requirements

  • Open to sophomore, junior, and senior students at Longwood University
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Attend trainings/open house events
  • Attend at least four Longwood events a semester
  • Participate in at least one service project/event
  • Spend at least five hours with assigned mentee a month (20hrs a semester)
  • Meet with program coordinator twice a semester
  • Complete evaluation at the end of each semester

Lead Mentor Requirements

  • Open to junior and senior students at Longwood University
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Plan and facilitate Mixers
  • Coordinate group activities/events
  • Attend trainings/open house events
  • Attend at least four Longwood events a semester
  • Participate in at least one service project/event
  • Spend at least five hours with assigned mentee a month (20hrs a semester)
  • Meet with program coordinator twice a semester
  • Complete evaluation at the end of each semester

Mentors must apply and interview. Mentors will be matched to a mentee based on their application/interview and a questionnaire to be filled out by all mentees. Lead Mentors will be selected to coordinate events along with the Graduate Assistants for Diversity & Inclusion and International Affairs.
