Dr. Manorama Talaiver receives the Governor's Technology Award

On behalf of Longwood University, Dr. Manorama Talaiver, Director, Institute for Teaching through Technology and Innovative Practices, received the Governor's Technology Award for Innovation in Higher Education, Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the Richmond Hilton Hotel and Spa during the Commonwealth of Virginia's Innovative Technology Symposium (COVITS) activities. The awards were presented by the Honorable Lt. Governor Bill Bollings and Secretary of Technology, Dr. Jim Duffey, on behalf of Governor Bob McDonnell. Dr. Kenneth Perkins, Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Deneese Jones, Dean of the College of Education and Human Services, and Mr. Bill Wilson, Senior Technology Engineer at the Institute for Teaching through Technology and Innovative Practices, joined her to receive the award.

 
 

If I Had a Hammer Math Initiative

On February 23, students of SPED 322, Math, Science, and Social Studies Adaptations for Students with Exceptional Needs, partnered with Hampden Sydney students to participate in the "If I Had a Hammer" http://ifihadahammer.com/ math initiative to teach children how to use fractions. In addition to the curriculum, children build an 11 X 8 feet house in a two-hour teambuilding event.
