During this two-act episode, the audience follows producer Megan Wilson to a tattoo shop in Richmond, VA and a distillery in Outer Banks, NC to talk with Longwood graduates, Deanna Carwile ’17 and Scott Smith ’05 about the roadblocks that they have faced and overcome in their careers since graduating. This episode is a beacon of inspiration for all those who are working through roadblocks in their careers as Deanna and Scott both share about how their personal roadblocks have shaped them into courageous, persistent, and successful individuals. Act one dives deep into Deanna’s journey through spearheading an industry change ignited by boss, Jesse Smith. Act two follows the entrepreneurial story of Scott as he founded the Outer Banks Distilling Company in North Carolina.  

Carwile navigates an industry and internal transition initiated by her boss when he altered the set-up of his tattoo shop, ultimately for the benefit of the tattoo artists. She was in a position where she would have to balance prioritizing the needs of the business and customers during a time of change. Smith displays great grit and persistence throughout all of the unknown complications and bureaucratic hoops he would soon have to jump through to launch his business. Both of these Longwood graduates faced these roadblocks with astounding hard-work and dedication that has lead them to flourish within their careers.
