Can’t decide on a career path? Register for our free webinar “How To Choose A Career Path When You Have No Idea What To Do” on Thursday, April 6th at 1pm to find out how to get a jump start on your career.

Whether you’re a senior in college or you’ve been out of school for a few years now, choosing a career path can be challenging if you go about it the wrong way. If you’re having trouble figuring out what you want to do with your life, chances are, one of these things is holding you back. Here are some reasons why you can’t decide on a career path:

1. You’re scared.

What if it doesn’t work out? What if you fail? What if you hate it? What if they hate you?

2. You’re not educated.

Sure, you went to school, but are you really educated on the industry that’s tied to your major? Do you even know what’s out there for jobs? Do you know what kinds of jobs you could do with your degree?

3. You’re not willing to take a risk.

Are you waving off offers or opportunities because you think they’re too much of a risk?

4. You’re having second thoughts.

After four years of studying a particular topic, you wonder halfway through senior year if it’s really the right track for you. Is this really what you want to do? Did you miss out on another, better field? Did you choose your path too soon?

5. You’re waiting things to fall into place.

While it’s good to stay optimistic, there’s a fine line between “wishing” for the perfect career to come along and staying positive when you try something and it doesn’t work out. Are you waiting for something to just fall in your lap without putting in the work to earn it?

6. You’re not giving your dreams a chance.

You’ve got big dreams. You’ve had them since you were a kid. Are you not giving them a chance? Do you think your dreams are trivial? Do you think they’re unrealistic?

7. You’re still not sure what you’re good at doing.

What ARE you good at anyway? What are your strengths? Why would employers value them?

8. You’re letting other people dictate your career goals.

Are you allowing your family and/or friends to tell you what you should be doing with your life? Do you feel pressure to follow the same path as other people in your life?
