1. Pay attention to transferable skills

More often than not, your summer job isn’t directly related to your career path after college. And that’s okay!

There are plenty of skills that can transfer from your summer job to other jobs down the line. Think: customer service, project management, public speaking, and so on. Think about those skills and add them to your resume.

2. Start a blog.

Even if you’re not a writer, starting a blog can be beneficial to your career in the long-term. Not only will it allow you to develop your writing skills, (which by the way, is a transferable skill) but it will also allow you to build your personal brand. You can write about topics related to your field and start establishing yourself as an expert. This is a great resume booster.

3. Volunteer in your community.

You don’t have to get paid to get work experience! Volunteering will not only allow you to give back to your community, but it will also allow you to add experience to your resume.

4. Do some freelancing work.

Want to get experience directly related to your field? Do a little freelance work over the summer. This will help you get the relevant skills and experience you need in your industry.

5. Start your own business.

Starting your own business, whether you’re doing social media marketing or selling lemonade, is an amazing resume booster. You’ll build up a variety of skills and show employers you have initiative.

So, there you have it! Five ways to beef up your resume over the summer. There are so many ways to get experience, even when you’re working in a job that’s completely unrelated to your college major.
