Writing across the curriculum expert Dr. Terry Myers Zawacki
Dr. Terry Myers Zawacki, Director of George Mason University’s Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program and co-author of Engaged Writers and Dynamic Disciplines: Research on the Academic Writing Life (with Chris Thaiss), will draw upon her years of experience to talk about guiding principles and practices for teaching with writing across the curriculum as well as research on the connections between writing and engagement in learning, students’ maturation as writers in their disciplines, and the role of grammar in achieving writing proficiency.
Morning Presentation, followed by Q&A time, 10-11:30 a.m., Building a Culture of Writing at Longwood University: Where Writing Happens and How it Helps Students Learn
Afternoon Workshops, 1-3 p.m., Designing Effective Writing Assignments (Bring syllabi and assignment sheets to work on, if you wish) and Responding Effectively and Efficiently to Student Writing (Bring your rubrics, if you have them)
