August 7, 2008
An article by Dr. Raymond Cormier, Visiting Professor of French, has recently been published in the Belgian journal Le Moyen Age (The Middle Ages). The article, “Au sillon de Virgile: un embellissement médiéval de Cerbère” (In the footsteps of Virgil: a medieval embellishment of Cerberus), studies in depth the creative amplification/appropriation by an anonymous 12th-century French romancer of Virgil’s monstrous hound in Book VI of The Aeneid. Cerebus is a three-headed dog that guards the Underworld. The article appears on pages 273-286 of Volume 114, No. 2, of the journal.
