Dr. Lissa Power-deFur has received a grant to offer professional development for speech-language pathologists

Dr. Lissa Power-deFur, Associate Professor and Director of the Center for Communication, Literacy, and Learning, has received a grant from the Virginia Department of Education to offer five American Speech Language-Hearing Association teleconferences as professional development for speech-language pathologists in the Southside Virginia region.

The teleconferences will explore the topics "Listening, Learning, and Literacy: Principles and Practices for Optimizing Communication in Children with Hearing Loss" (March 17), "Vocabulary Instruction: Evidence for Five Instruction Strategies" (April 5), "Assessing Children Who Speak Spanish: Milestones in Spanish Grammar Development" (May 12), "Word-Finding Assessment in Children and Adolescents: Beyond Picture Naming" (June 16), and "Selective Mutism: An Overview for SLPs" (Aug. 25).
