An endowed scholarship in memory of communication studies professor Dr. Bill Stuart, who died in September, has been established by his wife Amy, parents Callie and A.D. Stuart, and other family and friends. The award will be given to a Longwood student in communication studies.

Stuart was a well-known and popular professor known affectionately to his students as "Dr. B." He came to Longwood in August 2000 and was promoted to associate professor in 2006. Stuart became interim chair of the newly formed communication studies department in July.

"Given the love our students had for Bill Stuart and his love for students, this is a wonderful way to remember him," said Franklin Grant, associate vice president for university advancement and director of planned and major gifts. "It's truly a timeless gift because, as long there is a Longwood, our students will benefit."

Family and friends are collaborating on the memorial scholarship fund with Longwood's Office of University Advancement. If you wish to contribute, please go to give.longwood.edu. Be sure to enter "Bill Stuart Memorial Scholarship" in the allocation line of the online form. If you prefer to give via check, please make it payable to the Longwood University Foundation, write "Bill Stuart Memorial Scholarship" in the memo line and mail it to the Office of University Advancement at 201 High St., Farmville, VA 23909.
