Ken Copeland, executive director of Longwood University's Real Estate Foundation, has been named the university's vice president for administration and finance. His new responsibilities begin July 21.

Copeland has headed the Real Estate Foundation since 2004 and will continue in that role when he becomes vice president.  He has been the driving force behind several significant developments for Longwood, including Midtown Square, a mix of student housing and retail, and Lancer Park, now in its second phase of construction, a 720-bed complex of student apartments.

A CPA, Copeland earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from Averett University in Danville and an MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University. Prior to joining the Real Estate Foundation, he was director of economic development and executive director of the Longwood Small Business Development Center.

"I am confident that Ken Copeland is the right person to serve as vice president for administration and finance," said Longwood Interim President Marge Connelly.  "With his business background, engaging personality and management skills, I know he will be a tremendous leader for the unit. I appreciate his willingness to step forward and assume this additional and important role."

Copeland said he is excited about expanding his role at Longwood.

"I am both honored and humbled by the confidence being shown in me.  Longwood University has a bright future, and I'm excited about the opportunity to contribute in shaping that future."

Copeland replaces Kathy Worster, who has served as vice president for administration and finance since 2002 and joined the Longwood staff in 1997. Her last day at Longwood is July 20. She plans to pursue other personal and professional opportunities and to spend more time focusing on her family.
