Longwood University's Small Business Development Center's Small Business of the Year Award, given annually to five regional businesses, was covered by the Halifax County Chamber of Commerce website in the article "Hurt presents small business of the year awards Longwood Small Business Development." In the South Boston region, the award went to Doris Chism and Pathways Youth Services.
