LCVA earns CASE Gold Award

June 25, 2012

Longwood University

The Longwood Center for the Visual Arts (LCVA) won the Gold Award in the "Institutional Relations Publications: Books" category from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education Circle of Excellence competition. The award was given for the exhibition catalog "Three-Ring Circus: Highlights from the William and Ann Oppenhimer Folk Art Collection," a 162-page, four-color publication documenting the exhibition of the same name that ran at the LCVA in fall 2011.

The Circle of Excellence competition is advancement's premier international awards program. "The awards acknowledge superior accomplishments that have lasting impact, demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and deliver exceptional results. Winning programs epitomize the profession's best practices, raise standards and contribute to a growing body of knowledge about advancement."

The exhibition and catalog celebrate a major gift to Longwood University from the Oppenhimers. The catalog was written by LCVA Director K. Johnson Bowles and designed by David Whaley, director of publications and visual arts in the Office of Public Relations. Editorial assistance was provided by the Oppenhimers and LCVA staff members Beth Cheuk, Robin Sedgwick and Ashley Webb. Production and printing of the catalog was funded entirely through private donations.
