Several Longwood faculty and staff members and alumni are in the cast or crew for the Waterworks Players' upcoming production of Almost, Maine.
The cast for the romantic comedy, which will be presented Feb. 10-11 and 17-18 at 8 p.m., includes Dr. Don Blaheta, assistant professor of computer science; Dr. Leigh Lunsford, associate professor of mathematics; Linda Sauvé '85, administrative assistant in Capital Planning and Construction; and two other alumni, Brandon Nuckols '97 and Anita Lynn '10 (whose husband, Jay, is a Longwood staff member). Each cast member will play several roles in what is a series of vignettes. Dr. Mary Jo Stockton, web technology coordinator in Web Communications, is assistant stage manager and sound, and Dudley Sauve, a former faculty member, is the director.
Blaheta, in his first year at Longwood, is making his premiere on the Waterworks stage. All of the others are Waterworks veterans.
Since closing in New York City almost two years ago, John Cariani's Almost, Maine has become the most produced play in North America, with more than 600 companies staging the whimsical comedy. It is composed of nine short plays that explore love and loss in a remote, mythical place called Almost, Maine. The town's residents "find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways," says a news release by the Waterworks Players, a community theater group in Farmville.
