John Adams elected rector of Longwood Board of Visitors
June 30, 2010
John B. Adams Jr.
John B. Adams Jr. is the new rector of the Longwood University Board of Visitors. Otis L. Brown and Jane Brooke, '63, were recently re-elected vice rector and secretary, respectively, and Stephen Mobley, '93, was elected member-at-large.
These four positions comprise the Board's slate of officers, elected June 10. Adams replaces Dr. Helen Warriner-Burke, '56, as rector, and Mobley succeeds Hank Kim, '90, as member-at-large. Dr. Warriner-Burke is rotating off the Board after two terms.
Adams, of Richmond, has served on the Board since 2003 and was rector from 2005 to 2007. He is chairman and CEO of The Martin Agency. His wife, Delores "Bunny" Howell Adams, is a 1970 Longwood graduate.
Brown, of Midlothian, also a Board member since 2003, will be serving his fourth consecutive term as vice rector. He has been president of the Longwood Real Estate Foundation Board since its inception five years ago. He is the retired president of the State Fair of Virginia. His wife, Frances Young Brown, attended Longwood from 1951 to 1953.
Brooke, of Richmond, was appointed to the Board in 2008. She attended Longwood from 1959 to 1961. She is a retired managing director of Wachovia Securities.
Mobley, of McLean, joined the Board in 2009. He is program manager for Discovery Logic, a research and software engineering firm.
