LCCLL to host summer learning camps

The Longwood Center for Communication, Literacy, and Learning (LCCLL) will offer a variety of summer learning camps during June and July.

Camp Jumpstart will offer an intensive focus on early reading skills for children ages 3 ½ to 5. Sessions will be held July 6-29 (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays only) from 9-11:30 a.m.

Constructing REal Writing Camp (CREW) is designed for rising third, fourth, and fifth graders whose teachers have expressed concerns about their writing abilities. Campers can take advantage of both sessions or attend just one. Session 1 will be offered June 29, July 1, 6, and 8 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Session 2 will be offered July 20, 22, 27, 29 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Language Enrichment Games and Opportunities Camp (LEGO) will focus on language enrichment through games. LEGO 1 (for children ages 6-8) will be offered June 28, 29, 30 and July 6, 7, 8. LEGO II (for children ages 9-11) will be offered July 12, 13, 14 and July 19, 20, 21. All sessions will be held from 1-3 p.m.

Speech Practice and Refinement Camp (SPARC), designed for children ages 11-15 who stutter, will be offered June 21-July 14 (Mondays and Wednesdays only) from 10 a.m. to noon.

Social Hour will provide an opportunity for adults with cognitive disabilities to engage in social communication experiences in a festive environment. Social Hour will be held each Monday from June 28 to July 19 from 5-6 p.m.

Summer Academic Tutoring will be available by appointment for students demonstrating difficulty with various academic skills. Appointments will be scheduled from June 21 through July 28 (Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays only).

The cost of Camp Jumpstart, CREW, LEGO, and SPARC is $50/week. Social Hour is $5 per session. A 10 percent discount is available for Longwood employees and their families. Stipends are available. For more information visit www.longwood.edu/lccll or call 434-395-2972.
